NOV 2011: IN MEMORY OF OUR FALLEN, IN THE SERVICE OF OUR COUNTRY. The Site has been cleared and a new Monumental Stone (of Markfieldite Granite) has been placed, courtesy of Quinto Cranes Ltd, of Groby. No other details are available at this time. Comments? Click Here!

25 OCT 2011: This Crucially Important Matter is now well and truly in the hands of Your President and Committee; and has been since chosen so, by the Committee from 15th June 2011.The author of the idea and concept, is no longer involved or responsible, per that Committe adjudication!

31 AUG 2011: No More Infornmation has been received by way of any update or news by The Club Secretary - but it will be posted if he ever hears.

16 FEB 2011: Another £100 Donation RECEIVED: Special thanks are expressed to the Member from Ratby for this wonderful contribution to the Fund.

4th FEB 2011: Planning Permission GRANTED: We are delighted to pass on the News from our Local Architect and Project Manager, Mr David Haynes, that permission was granted to procede on the fourth of Feb 2011 by Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council - more details and updates to follow!

9th JAN 2011: Planning Application Submitted: A Special Feature is to appear in the Jan/Feb 2011 Edition of the Fieldhead & Groby Spotlight covering the Planning Application and final fundraising as the Club approaches its set deadline of Dedication, on Armistice Sunday, 13th November 2011.

4 Nov 2010: A Picture Speaks A Thousand Words! The Committee has approved in principal, the design above: and express on behalf of Members and Supporters alike, profoundest thanks to Mr David Haynes for this Sterling effort; the work now begins to obtain Planning Permission and of course - a source for Welsh Or Swithland Slate for the Cross and two Bases - to compliment the Groby Granite already donated. The Specialist skills of a Monumemental Mason and able bodies to move (not dispose) earthworks and erect the walls and slabbed base are now sought. The Fund will be re-opened via collections and a special Fund-Raiser to ensure we can meet the anticipated costs, exceeding Three Thousand Pounds. All donations appreciated and for those trying to picture the area, the door you can see is the DAA/Fire Escape to the Skittle Alley / Carling Suite that exits onto Rookery Lane!

  • 28 Oct 2010: 'Artist's Impressions of the Prospective
      Design, pre-planning application, will appear here on Thursday 4th November; they are both inspirational and ambitious', stated the Club President and spokesman, Club Secretary Hagan. 
  • Sept 2010: The President and Club Secretary are delighted to advise that the Groby War Memorial Project moves ever-closer to fruition; following cordial discusions with well-known local Architect. Mr David Haynes, David has graciously offered his wide knowledge and local expertise in the preparation and submission of a Planning Application, Commissioning of Stone Masons etc. In short, David will be Project Managing on behalf of the Club, its Members and Residents.   • Aug 2010: Green Lights on final design and plans submission imminent.
  • June 2010: The support and skills of an Architect is sought in the preparation of plans and submission of a Planning Application for The Memorial on Club grounds.
  • May 2010: Committee Favours Sketch 'B' from Local Contributor - more to follow! 
  • April 2010: The Local Groby Granite we hope to use is as can be seen in Stone bus shelters in the Village. Take a look and that should give ideas to local designers willing to lend a hand as we approach final completeion of this invaluable project.
  • Feb 2010: We hope to have a featured article in the forthcoming Spotlight; design ideas as ststed Jan 2010 are urgently sought, as we approach and compile a Planning Application for siting a suitable Memorial in the Club grounds. Contact us.
  • Jan 2010: President now seeks Design Ideas and Plans for a suitable Memorial to be sited within the Club Grounds, utilising local Groby-Granite - Contact Us
  • 31st Dec: Latest from the President is that on advice received from the RBL, Club will be seeking designs from local Architects / artists with a view to submitting an Official Planning Application to H&B Borough Council as soon as practicable 2010. Send your ideas via contact us
  • 3rd Nov: The President regrets to advise no further news to date from the RBL
  • Update 26/10/2009 - Club President awaits info from RBL to finalise works towards planning and erection of the new Memorial in the Club Grounds.
  • Club is in process of finalising matters with the Royal British Legion.
  • Local Groby Granite Stone is in storage - design ideas are welcomed.

Grand Fundraiser and Finale -  6th November 2008 Raised  £730!!!

 
An Evening Extraveganza took place on Thursday 6th November 2008, at which many Artistes Entertained; giving of thier services for free. The event was by Ticket.

June 2007- Article in the Spotlight: As reported in the June edition of the Groby & Field Head Spotlight, Groby Ex-Servicemens Club launched an Appeal to Fund the building and siting - at long last - of a War Memorial within the Village Curtellage. (See article here) The Fund is being run in close co-operation and with the support of the Ratby Branch of the Royal British Legion; which sadly no longer meets regulary, and is very short of Members.

29 NOV 2007:-

  • DONATIONS WERE  MADE AT BARCLAYS BANK IN GROBY BY QUOTING "GROBY EX-SERVICEMENS CLUB WAR MEMORIAL FUND".

Especial thanks are expressed to all who have made donations. Our apologies to all contributors, and sincere appreciation for the patience shown during the five months it took to secure banking facilities. Special thanks are made to the Club's Asst. to Sec., Hazel Ingall, and to Club Trustees for their sterling efforts and forms-filling extra-ordinaire!
